Enkitec Streamlines Test Data Gathering and Reporting for Global Semiconductor Manufacturer

Business Problem

A global semiconductor manufacturer had fabrication facilities across the world from which they gathered XML-based test statistics. This repository of data had grown so large – at last count its main table housed more than five billion records – that reports were being deferred until the end of each month to help ease the load on the server that was receiving the test data. The results of this delay was that the company often couldn't tell that there was an issue with a component being tested, or even problems with the testers themselves, until it was too late to react.

The company was also using several systems to view specific product and component information on an ad-hoc basis. But these systems had very little integration and, as such, were not being utilized to their potential.

Solution

Enkitec used Oracle Application Server to consolidate data from both the test repository and several other systems. This unified data was then accessed through a new Oracle Portal interface. The integration was done via web services when possible, and with a simple implementation of frames when no other option was available.

Benefits

The new Portal interface allows users to check product test status in near real time and presents virtually all available information to the user in one place, with extensive user-controlled data filtering available. A "My Products" tab allowed managers of multiple product lines to view only their products, drastically reducing the amount of data flowing through the Portal and improving performance.

With these new, near real time capabilities, product managers have started using the Portal as a shop floor control system. As soon as an issue is identified, it can be dealt with immediately. The Portal interface saw rapid adoption throughout the company, and it is now being used at their facilities around the world. Additionally, collaboration on product management has never been higher.
