Exadata Administration
August 7-9, 2013
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST
$3,400
Instructor-led Lecture, Demonstrations and Student Hands-on Labs
This three-day course focuses on performing day-to-day administration of the Oracle Exadata platform. Students will learn about the architecture of the Exadata machine and what to expect when asked to administer Oracle’s premier engineered system. Important tasks will be highlighted through hands-on labs. Students will learn how to successfully perform one of the most difficult aspects of Exadata administration – patching, as well as how to handle hardware failures and ensure that the system stays online. Students will learn from the Enkitec’s experience of owning and administering their own Exadatas, plus the numerous Exadata implementations performed by Enkitec.
What students will learn:
-
Exadata configurations and components
-
How Exadata storage servers are configured
-
How to administer ASM diskgroups on Exadata
-
How to troubleshoot hardware failures
-
How to configure Exadata
-
How to patch Exadata storage servers
-
How to back up and recover Exadata systems including storage servers
SQL/Exadata Performance Intensive
August 7-9, 2013
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST
$3,200
This three-day course will give you the knowledge and tools you need to optimize Oracle SQL on both non-Exadata and Exadata platforms. The specific Exadata optimization techniques learned in the second half of the course can be best understood and applied if you have a firm foundation of SQL execution internals. Prior to actually laying hands on Enkitec's in-house Exadata X2-2, students can collect or refresh their foundation knowledge with material covered during the detailed lecture and demos in the first half of the course. This knowledge is then utilized and techniques adjusted when necessary for specific Exadata optimization features. Students will learn and practice skills that will allow them to diagnose and correct SQL performance issues of all types and become comfortable with how to effectively attack SQL performance issues with confidence.
Part 1 (1 day): Pro Oracle SQL Tuning - SQL Execution Internals
Instructor-led Lecture and Demonstrations
The first day focuses on SQL Execution Internals that are the foundation for all SQL tuning. Students will gain an understanding of how SQL executes from the "inside out" through an in-depth overview beginning with Oracle architecture components such as the SGA and PGA and continuing through the specific mechanics of how SQL executes. Students will build on these SQL internals fundamentals by taking a deep dive into SQL Execution Plans and the access and join methods that Oracle uses. Using the Pro Oracle SQL book, co-authored by Enkitec's Karen Morton and Kerry Osborne (et al), the course is intended to provide fast yet in-depth coverage that will allow DBAs and Developers to enhance their ability to quickly and accurately find and diagnose SQL performance problems.
Part 2 (2 days): Exadata Performance Optimization
Instructor-led Lecture, Demonstrations and Student Hands-on Labs
The second two days focus on optimizing the performance of the Oracle Exadata platform. Students will gain an understanding of the physical characteristics of the Exadata machine and what makes it different from a traditional Oracle environment. Key features of the Exadata machine will be illustrated via many hands-on labs. Students will learn how to monitor the database to determine if key Exadata specific optimizations are being utilized and how to encourage the database to use them when necessary. To ensure that students experience production-like activity, this course will be delivered using Enkitec’s in-house Exadata X2-2 environment with multi-terabyte databases.
